After a relatively dry early season, the snow started to fall in earnest on on Friday, August 12th, 2016 and it didn’t stop or even take a break until Friday, August 19th, 2016. ย
Yes, it snowed for 8 days straight and who knows how much snow we got up top…ย ย ย Not exactly sure, but it must have been over 5-feet. ย Maybe 7?
It was enough snow down low to be able to ski to the bottom and get after all the insane tree skiing on the lower mountain. ย When there is snow to the bottom of this ski resort, it’s World Class.
My personal favorite day was August 18th, when the World Class tree skiing here was on and firing. ย That day was around 2-feet deep and just stupid. ย You can’t beat the tree skiing here as the trees don’t have leaves, there are no tree wells, they are well spaced (old growth), and they don’t have low branches. ย You can just charge in there.
โThe snow was good today, except for how it kept hitting me in the face.โ โ Red Marmot, August 18th
August 20th wasn’t bad either with blue skies, perfect, re-crystalized snow with sparkly hoar frost on everything. ย That day were were able to get into the backcountry of La Laguna and Van Titter and it was all time.
August 14th was also great, oh, and August 15th… ย Can’t forget August 17th, when the sun came out and it was amazing up on Nubes… ย Then August 19th when Nubes chair opened and the backcountry was deep…
You get the idea. ย It was simply one helluva week here at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina.
