Avalanche Watch Issued For Colorado As Powerful Winter Storm Moves In

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has issued an Avalanche Watch for Colorado.ย It has been issued as a powerful winter storm moves into the area. Avalanche danger is expected to raise to a level 4 on Tuesday.

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER.

THE COLORADO AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED AN AVALANCHE
WATCH

* TIMING...Issued at 9 AM MST Monday for dangerous avalanche
ย  conditions beginning Tuesday morning.

* AFFECTED AREA...Affected areas include the San Juan Mountains,
ย  San Miguel Mountains, and Rico Mountains

* AVALANCHE DANGER...The avalanche danger is expected to increase to
ย  HIGH(Level 4)on Tuesday

* REASON...A powerful winter storm is moving into southwestern
ย  Colorado. Portions of the San Juan Mountains could see new snow
ย  accumulations of 15 to 30 inches by Tuesday morning and the
ย  avalanche danger will rise to HIGH (Level 4). Natural avalanches
ย  will become likely and large dangerous human triggered avalanches
ย  that break near the ground will become very likely.


* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Backcountry users should
ย  avoid traveling on or underneath any slope steeper than 30
ย  degrees during the watch period.Pay attention to changing
ย  conditions and a rapidly increasing danger over the next 24 hours.
