Mike Bartholow

Although he can often be found with his legs hanging off a chairlift, the sides of a snowmobile, or even out the door of a helicopter, Mike prefers to travel in the winter on skis. Mike has been a board member of the American Avalanche Association, a winter backcountry ranger for the US Forest Service. a helicopter avalanche technician, snow surveyor, and a professional ski patroller in Alaska, Colorado, and California.

Mono Winds Damage Dodge Ridge, CA

On January 19, 2021, the Central Sierra was hit by strong northeast winds, commonly known as Mono Winds. Sustained winds in this unprecedented wind event averaged well over 100mph, with gusts estimated at 130-150mph.
