Record Breaking Snowfall in Canada

North Eastern BC received a record breaking 55 centimeters, or about 21 inches, of snow over between Tuesday and Wednesday. Cities like Fort Saint John suffered from power outages, multiple-car wrecks, and cancelation of public transportation. Things should be looking up, though, as the rest of their week is forecasted to be sunny and near 60 degrees. Stay safe Canada.

Think You Know How To Drive in the Snow?

With the first snowfall comes of one life’s greatest anxieties: sliding your car all over the road. As a native flatlander myself, it is a particularly tense time of the year for me. My second snowy season in the mountains, I was driving up the summit during a storm one night. It was pitch black and I was nervous to […]

Anticipating Snowfall on the East Coast

Snow has fallen and resorts are already opening. If you’re like me, you’re wondering what this year will bring to your local resort – will it be good or should you lose all hope of powder days and instead focus on the other aspects of your ordinarily ridged and pathetic existence. As it turns out, no one truly knows what […]

How I Survived the Winter Living in My Subaru Forester

I woke up to a text from my mother one morning in early January. I had converted my Subaru Forester into camper to spend the winter in the mountains. “I saw that it was 8 below last night, are you okay?” I was surprised, cocooned in my hefty sleeping bag with my dog; I thought it was warmer, a lot […]

El Capitan Meets El Héroe

Andrew Foster loved his wife. He loved his wife so much, that he died shielding her from massive chunks of El Capitan that rained down upon them September 27th at approximately 1:55pm. The Welsh couple was celebrating their first year of marriage in Yosemite. They loved the outdoors and committed themselves to a life of adventure, and a life together. […]

How to Cope with Injury

Pre-season injury

I’ve always been jealous of people who love sports that aren’t dependent on season. Baseball, for example, might have a season, but enthusiasts can still throw a ball around in the winter. Snowboarding and skiing are over once the snow is. It is precious. And it is a burden. My life during the snowboarding season is different to my life […]

What the Hell is up with HAPE?

Mammoth Mountain. January 14th. I was sitting in a gondola being carried to heaven: I was going to the best bluebird day of my snowboarding career after a week of storms dropped around 20 feet of snow. After I landed, I skated to an untouched spot, arriving breathless and exhausted. I powered through and dropped in. The snow was magical, […]
