Dylan Cautela

Born and raised in the state of Maine, sculpted from ice and built to rip! When I'm not at work playing in the dirt or braaaappping the old chainsaw I enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and the general great outdoors. There is ample beauty to be explored in my great home state (and all around the east) but most days I find myself yearning for the adventure of the wild wild west and foreign countries unknown, which happen to be my winter playgrounds.

Mad River Glen Snow Report: Winter Has Sprung!

Looks like good snow though!

While it has been a slightly slow start to the season in the northeast, the weather has turned to winter and resorts are quickly making up for it. Vermont has been the center of attention as of late with many resorts picking up snow totals well into the double digits over the past week. The forecast is looking bright too […]

Colorado Teens Rescued After 48-Hour Whiteout on Summit of a 14,000′ Peak

Sure feels good I imagine.

Colorado teens Tommy Hendricks and Matt Smith were successfully rescued from an area near Mount of the Holy Cross on the day before Thanksgiving. The two teens had spent a few days in the backcountry after becoming lost due to whiteout conditions which set in with a storm front that blanketed most of the west. The pair have had several successful summits of other 14ers […]

Increased Gray Wolf Activity in California

Indeed he did

Since a gray wolf named OR7 graced California’s northern territories in 2011, wolf activity has become a hot topic in the state. In the 1920’s the gray wolf had been eradicated from California and by the 1930’s was almost extinct across the entire US. OR7’s presence was the first real wolf activity in the state in almost 100 years and sparked a movement to […]

Snow Suffocation Death at Whistler’s Opening Weekend

I haven't skied a day that good in my entire life let alone on opening day...

An unfortunate tragedy has befallen Whistler Blackcomb resort on their opening weekend. A 27-year old snowboarder perished on Saturday due to suffocation in the deep snow of an off-piste run.
