Dylan Cautela

Born and raised in the state of Maine, sculpted from ice and built to rip! When I'm not at work playing in the dirt or braaaappping the old chainsaw I enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and the general great outdoors. There is ample beauty to be explored in my great home state (and all around the east) but most days I find myself yearning for the adventure of the wild wild west and foreign countries unknown, which happen to be my winter playgrounds.

Squaw Alpine Conditions Report: Soft Snow and Plentiful Sun

It was good.

Christmas Day 12/25 at Squaw Valley Good weather kept the valley and upper mountain at Squaw nice and cold after Friday’s storm, even when the beautiful California sunshine came out. With a daytime high of mid-twenties for Sunday everything that had been skied on Saturday was still skiing relatively well. Nice and soft, almost chalky, with the occasional patch of rain […]

Sun Valley, Idaho Conditions Report: Blower Base Making Pow

Immense gratitude

Steamboat Resort to Penalize Individuals Rescued from the Backcountry by Patrol Staff

Those aspens look killer!

Steamboat resort in Colorado now imposes a $500 per person fine for individuals rescued out of the surrounding backcountry by Steamboat Ski Patrol staff. Since Steamboat is required by the U.S. Forest Service to have out-of-bounds access gates […]

Jackson Hole Conditions Report: Deepcember to Remember

Wish I had gotten some shots like this but no one wanted to ski with me!

Thursday 12/15: It is certainly a deep December in Jackson Hole. Overnight Wednesday and into Thursday, Jackson Hole received ample amounts of snowfall. Their 5 am report claimed 5 inches at the base with 7 inches at mid-mountain and still snowing hard… like really hard. Basically all lifts spun on a delayed opening due to avalanche mitigation hazards, but once they […]
