I'm 900 years old, have three children, a wife, and on occasion love a Heineken Light. Skiing is FUN, so why not record video and take pictures while having FUN? Tahoe commuting is my game. I once broke 1 million points on Robotron (Arcade) ...but that's not very special to the 'pros.' www.slaythegnar.com

Descending During the NorCal Drought @ Kirkwood – 01/18/14

Wow what a year eh? Not much has changed since my last update but the bottom line is that there is definitely some fun to be had in the Sierra Nevada Range. On January 11th, it actually snowed. Yes, those 4 inches made things steep and…well…a bit better than expected. Arrival at Kirkwood blessed us with a glimpse of winter. With temperatures in the 30s, a cool breeze, snow on the trees and crisp blue skies, it was shaping up to be a great late November, er January day. Given the lack of gnar on the slopes, I have been taking this opportunity to get my kids on the slopes. Parker, age 2, is pretty enthusiastic about wearing the gear, riding […]

Kirkwood Conditions Report: Corduroy Cruising & Variable Off-Piste

All of us who ski Tahoe are aware of our snow situation. WE NEED A CLASSIC SIERRA CEMENT SNOWATHON! Well, at least we have something right? A few days ago, I was able to head up to Kirkwood and get the legs burning but also pleasantly surprised to find some quality skiing. Off of Chair 5, Lower Zach’s and Outlaw were blissful packed powder corduroy and perfect to burn off the summer rust of your edges. They were blowing a ton of snow on Chair 6 and it looks like they will be opening Zachary tomorrow morning. Not sure if […]

Entertaining the Variable @ Cardrona Ski Field, New Zealand

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to visit Cardrona Ski Field for a few days. Cardrona caters to everyone and really does ‘love you.’ From families to park skiers, off piste warriors to sidecountry enthusiasts, they really have a lot to offer. Speaking of the terrain parks, now that Snow Park NZ has shutdown, Cardrona is now THE place to visit during the North American Summer for park skiing With my skiing partner Miles Holden, we couldn’t have had two more different days on this trip. The first day was shut down early for insane weather, and the second day was a mix of every type of light, snow condition and terrain[…]

Saturday Session of Succulence @ Harris Mountains Heli-ski NZ – September 14th, 2013

What the best way to spend your last day on a ski vacation? Heli-skiing is crucial to experience the Southern Alps of New Zealand for snow enthusiasts. Access to the interior of the Southern Alps is extremely tough due to their massive stature without any gradual elevation gain from the plains. This is why most of the ski fields are located on the exterior of the range…it is just too difficult to throw in a road and build a resort. Higher elevation, steeper slopes, better snow, longer descents, and incredible vistas are what you […]

Chuting for Kiwi Spring Slayage @ The Remarkables, NZ September 8th – 12th, 2013

Oh September…the perfect time to sleep on a plane and wake up in New Zealand! Its hard not to love the South Island of New Zealand. Tahoe Turns on July 4th…possible?

During my skiing lifetime around Northern California, there have been two massive years with top to bottom lift-served skiing on July 4th. Those years were the Summer of 1995 and 2011. But what about a normal year or worse yet, a below normal year? Bottom line for the Summer of 2013 – Head South on Hwy 88 near Carson Pass. […]

“Summering in the Sultry Sierra” | Carson Pass, CA Conditions Report June 15th

It’s that time of year again in Northern California…hiking, snow skiing, boating & jet skiing!

Unknown to what we would find on a back to back low snow year, the objective was clear…to climb and ski around the Carson Pass area off of Round Top Peak (Moon Crescent zone @ 10,381 ft), and to climb and ski as many lines as possible around the Sisters Peaks (10,153 ft).[…]
