The Top 5 Adventure Cities in The USA:

Anchorage

America has long been a place of wild unknown lands. Though in modern society that element of untamed environments is no longer a part of our everyday lives, many people have come enjoy the places that preserve the organic, unrefined landscapes through a variety of outdoor activities. Of all the cities in the US it can be rare to find places where the most coveted natural environments reside directly next to built ones. A juxtaposition such as this fosters growth of outdoor communities who both recreate and act to preserve the native land surrounding them. In our opinion, the following cities with this juxtaposition are some of the best in the country.

Brain Post: How Big is Your Blind Spot?

We all know cars have blind spots. Some larger than others, but that’s no new news. The question here is: Do skiers and snowboarders have blind spots? And if so, where? The answer lies not in the gear, or the thick layers of fleece, down, and Gore-Tex apparel. Nor does it have anything to do with those nice new, brightly colored, reflective […]

WinterWonder Grass Concert Report: Squaw Valley

The 2018 WinterWonder Grass Music Festival made a stop at Squaw Valley this past weekend and Tahoe showed up. Despite pouring rain, sleet, and snow, no one seemed to have a problem getting down to some world class bluegrass and acoustic music. Bands like the California Honeydrops, Fruition, Elephant Revival, and the Devil Makes Three were just a few of the bands that played on the main stage during the three day festival.

Squaw Valley Conditions Report: Unbelievable Awesomeness

This report covers the last several days at Squaw Valley.  It has been absolutely insane in Tahoe the past 5 days.  The storm started rolling through on Tuesday night.  Wednesday was a fantastic sleeper pow day great for hippy pow turns bad for sending.  Thursday was and even better sleeper pow day with pockets of amazing visibility perfect for sending.  Friday was the deepest day I’ve ever skied in Tahoe this season and not many crowds though the vis was pretty bad.  Saturday was amazing pow day but the lines were crazy.  It took about an hour per lap and got skied out quickly… but the fingers opened and some people got quite sendy.  Sunday, today, was also crowded, but since today was the first day the storm broke, squaw opened the whole mountain and it really thinned the crowds out.

Squaw Valley Conditions Report: Steep and Deep

Squaw Valley was absolutely unreal today.  The storm everyone’s been talking about hit yesterday in full force and started out quite warm.  It was raining everywhere, but slowly throughout the day the rain turned to snow and at about 7pm, it started to accumulate. I went to bed dreaming of face shots and when I woke, my dreams were more true than ever.  when dawn broke, 10-12 inches of snow was piled on my railing.  I hastily made breakfast, threw on my gear and ran out the door towards the lifts.

Jackson Hole Conditions Report: Grey Bird Grins

I got up early this morning to shoot the sunrise and it was absolutely bluebird.  An amazing sunrise means a clear blue bird day, yeah? No, in the Tetons you are always at the mercy of the weather.  By mid morning the sky clouded over and we finally made it out onto the mountain.  I was no pow day but the snow on the groomers was quite good.  Also this was my first time skiing Jackson Hole and holy hell they have some awesome groomers.  One of the things my home mountain Squaw Valley lacks is quality, long, steep groomers.  Jackson Hole definitely has more than enough ripping smooth corduroy to keep you busy all day long.

Squaw Valley Conditions Report & Photo Tour: 6-Inches of New Snow

Yesterday was pretty good at Squaw Valley.  It snowed about 3 inches the afternoon before yesterday and then another 3 inches over night.  Honestly it didn’t really ski like 6 inches though.  I’d say it felt more like 4 on top of ice but in the spots where it blew around and collected, you wouldn’t hit the bottom.

I started out the day at KT-22, did two laps before heading to Squaw 1 and then to Siberia.  KT’s chairlift side was actually pretty good for about half the run before it turned into ice bumps slightly dusted with new snow.  Siberia was where it was at.  Headwall nor the slot opened, but the reverse traverse to Sunbowl to C2 bowls was good to go as well as the high traverse around Headwall face to Classic chute.

You definitely had to ski with a bit of caution yesterday due to it being variable soft to rock hard ice, but all in all it was a darn fun day.  C2 bowls was definitely my favorite laps of the day, though I heard all of granite opened including the peak and that was pretty good too.

Squaw Valley Conditions Report: Chalky Icy Fun

Obviously February has not delivered much snow to Squaw Valley this year.  We recently got a bit of colder weather and a few snowflakes.  It didn’t accumulate much but a few inches of new blanketed the slopes earlier this week.  Today all that new snow has been skied off, but it is still quite chalky and fun.  The groomers are best, especially off Siberia, fast and smooth, you can rip em.  Of course the Gold Coast park is open if you’d prefer to catch some air.
