Report from February 4, 2025
Today I zipped over to Alta, UT, with one thing in mind.
Slushy laps on “High Rustler,” my favorite run at Alta.
I haven’t skied Alta since December and the snow levels were about the same when I left which meant that getting in might be a bit tricky, but once in it was gonna be a great ride.
I battled the High Traverse and entered High Boy from the top.
It was rocky with a lotta side-stepping but it worked.
Once in, the whole run was gravy.
Warm, soft snow, big flat sections up high, and rolling moguls down low.
Visibility was a bit tough but you could open it up in spots and I was most certainly panting at the bottom.

The bottom of the run dumps you right back onto the Collin’s Chair where I gossiped with ex Russian fighter pilots, medical doctors, hard core ski bums, and a guy who blasted up from SLC for his lunch break.
At the top of the chair, I went right back to High Rustler for another and found a better albeit lower entrance.
I ripped off 5 High Rustler laps in total and felt very satisfied and a bit tired.
I still haven’t fully recovered from that month of backcountry skiing in British Columbia.
Temps were balmy at Alta today with the sign board showing 45ยบF at the base.ย
It’s been a warm one out here in Utah and that should all come to an end later this week when cooler temps and some snow return to the forecast.
Thanks, Utah!

I used to live in Alta. I lived at Goldminers Daughters Lodge. Great experience. Great environment.
