Alta Ski Area in Utah recently recorded some of the lowest snow totals on record since 1945.
In total, Alta recorded a total of 55.5 inches of snowfall in January and February. This is 118.5 inches less snow compared to the 2020-2021 ski season.
Although the lack of snow in peak skiing months made it harder than usual for Alta Ski Area to keep terrain open, the resort was never discouraged. Alta Ski Area has tweeted an awesome “photo of the day” virtually every day in January and February. These tweets prove the resort’s commitment to its guests’ experiences, regardless of the current snow conditions.
Once you look at some of these pictures, it’s pretty obvious that visitors were not fazed by the lack of snow in January and February. Skiers have also been tweeting back to the Alta Ski Area about their awesome experiences on the mountain.
On February 19th, in the heat of the snowfall drought, fans of the resort still said that their trip was “worth the jetlag.”
Looking at current conditions, the snowfall recorded so far in March is already more than what was recorded in January and February combined. Alta Ski Area officials have already recorded 60.5 inches of snowfall in March – just nine inches short of the entire 2020-21 March season.

Hopefully, massive dumps of snow continue to fall over the Alta Ski Area so that visitors can have access to the most amount of terrain possible.
