This winter in Utah has sure been a weird one. Crazy warmth and not much snow. But there is a reason we ski Alta. Even a bad year hear is better than a normal year in Colorado. The past few weeks have been very warm, but luckily Alta is mostly North facing and the coverage on most slopes is still good.

The groomers have been starting the day a bit firm, but by 11 things are starting to soften up. On Sugarloaf things begin to soften even a bit earlier

By the afternoons everything is skiing great. The Collins Jib lap is skiing amazing right now. Find a possy and start ripping. For those unfamiliar, the Collins jib lap is the Alta equivalent of a terrain park. At 2000 vertical feet with about 30 total features you can take your pick hitting about 15-20 features per line depending on your creativity level. There is every thing from cat track butter pads, to short soft mogul lines, to 20-30ft table tops!

We did have a quick refresher last week that freshened things up nicely for a few days, but with the high sun and warm temps it wasn’t long before we were back to skiing the mushed potatoes.

On some of the more exposed lines the wind and sun has melted some snow. But perserverance was well worth it for a perfect eddies high nowhere run in smooth un-trenched corn.
