The days are getting shorter, its getting colder, and the snow is starting to stack up here in Southcentral Alaska.

We spent last weekend hunting for steep powder at Turnagain Pass.

The challenge is finding zones that have escaped the recent wind and avalanche events. Its take time, energy, and thought.

The usual suspects of strong storm, outflow, and gap winds have scoured channelized terrain such as the Turnagain Pass corridor and Taylor Pass.

But, once you get out of the wind affect, what you find is a stable, rightside up snowpack that is 120 cm deep.

The next storm will flow north out of the Gulf of Alaska tomorrow night, its nice to have winter back!
