The eight watches previously owned by Michael Schumacher were part of a more extensive watch auction by the famous auction house Christie’s. Prior to the auction, the watches went on a global tour with stops in New York and Taipei before going under the hammer on Tuesday at Christie’s in Geneva.
The highest bid went to a Platinum Vagabondage 1 by F.P. Journe, a small luxury watchmaker in Geneva, which sold for CHF 1.2 million ($1.5 million). The custom-made watch was a gift to Schumacher by former Ferrari CEO Jean Todt. It features a red watch face with Ferrari insignia and has a personalized engraving on the back dedicated to Schumacher. Another watch, an Audemars Piguet featuring a Ferrari prancing horse emblem, sold for CHF 330,000 ($366,426).
While Christie’s’ did not reveal the buyers’ identities, the auction house did confirm that a box set of five watches in the Ruthenium collection went to the same buyer.
