Three members of the famous YouTube travel blog collective, “High On Life”, died after falling off a waterfall in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada on Tuesday July 3rd, 2018. These falls are popular and are very close to both Vancouver and Whistler.
Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh, and Megan Scraper are the three who perished.
“High On Life” has over 500,000 YouTube subscribers and over 1.1 million Instagram followers.

Local police report that the three Instagram/YouTube stars were swimming above Shannon Falls in Squamish, B.C. when they “slipped and fell into a pool 30m (98′) below.”
Other members of “High On Life” created a memorial fund page and the tribute video below:
“On July 3rd, 2018 we lost 3 very dear friends of ours, Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh, and Megan Scraper. There are truly no words that can be said to ease the pain and the devastation that we are all going through right now. They were three of the warmest, kindest, most driven and outgoing people you could ever meet, and the world has lost a great deal of light from the passing of our friends. They lived every single day to it’s fullest, they stood for positivity, courage, living the best life you can, and they shared and taught their values to millions or people worldwide. As tragic as their loss is, their message lives on through us all, and it is now our responsibility to keep the message going.” – “High On Life”
According to the Vancouver Sun, this accident occurred after Megan slipped and fell off the waterfall leading to Ryker and Alexey being swept off the waterfall while attempting to save her.
“High On Life” is based in Vancouver, Canada. The group was formed by Ryker, Alexey, and Parker Heuser after they completed a trip traveling all over the world in 2012.
“High On Life”‘s mission is to promote brands and destinations via photo and videos from around the world.
Shannon Falls are some of the tallest waterfalls in B.C. reaching up to 1009′ in height.
Officials are warning people to be extremely cautious around Shannon Falls.
“Areas like Shannon Falls have very polished granite, it’s very slippery with the mist and the lichen and etcetera that builds up around there-going in or near those pools has great risk.” – John Wilcox with Squamish Search and Rescue told radio station News 1130 on Wednesday.
The Royal Mounted Canadian Police confirmed that they were able to recover all three of the bodies.
Police report that Alexey and Megan were in their 20’s and Ryker was 30.
In 2017, Ryker, Alexey, and another “High On Life” group memeber, Justis Price Brown, were banned from all US federal land after pleading guilty to walking in/on a sensitive hot spring in Yellowstong National Park. They pleaded guilty to more crimes in national parks across the USA.
RMCP Press Release:
July 4th, 2018
On July 3rd, 2018, at 11:55 am Squamish RCMP received a call from BC Ambulance regarding three people who were swimming in one of the pools at the top of Shannon Falls. The individuals were with a group of friends when they slipped and fell into a pool 30 metres below.
Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR), Lions Bay SAR, BC Ambulance, Squamish Fire, BC Parks, and Squamish RCMP attended to the scene in order to coordinate the search efforts.
“SAR teams, multiple Helicopter Units, and RCMP have been working in all capacities to locate the three people” stated Corporal Sascha Banks. “At around 8:30 pm last night teams were able to confirm the location of the three people in one of the lower pools. The RCMP and Squamish SAR have transitioned to a recovery of the bodies from the pool but the terrain is extremely difficult, very dangerous, and the water flow will be heavy with the warm temperatures today, increasing the risk to those in the recovery effort.”
Specialized RCMP and SAR teams are already on site this morning. Until the joint operation is completed Shannon Falls and any trails leading to the pool system at the top of Shannon Falls are closed to the public.
RCMP will not be releasing the names at this time.
