Early Friday morning, April 18th, an avalanche came down on a group of Sherpa on Mt. Everest at around 21,000 feet. They were ascending the mountain to set up fixed ropes for the climbers they were assisting.
The avalanche was massive and it took the lives of 15 of the Sherpa. Some are still missing and some have been injured.
This was the single worst tragedy in Mt. Everest climbing history. People have been climbing Everest since the 1920s.
