“Over the last seven days we received six and a half feet of snow, and half of that came in the last 48 hours.” Ski Portillo via a press release this morning
Some meteorologists are calling this past weekend’s storm the strongest to hit South America in the past 5 years…
Portillo, Chile is arguably the most famous ski resort in South America and it holds some of South America’s best terrain. Portillo literally had 0.00″ of snow on the ground last week. This week, they have 6.5 feet of snow on the ground after a huge snowstorm clobbered the place this past weekend.
Just up the hill from Portillo is the border between Chile and Argentina and a high mountain pass called Libertadores. The border patrol is claiming they received 9-feet of snow this past week on Pase Libertadores.
Portillo will open on July 18th for the winter season.
CHILE/ARGENTINA SKI RESORT 7-DAY SNOW TOTALS:
Las Lenas, Arg = 45″ (open)
Valle Nevado, Chile = 31″ (they open on Wednesday)
El Colorado, Chile = 25″ (opened today)
Please continue to update. I’m heading to Ski Portillo in 3 weeks.
Thanks!!!
Good to see after last wk. Pretty late, for their January.
