***UPDATE*** IT HAS BEEN SNOWING NON-STOP SINCE I LEFT TELLURIDE – MORE INFO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST!
Given that the Lake Tahoe region continues to struggle for snowfall, this family decided to head back out to our ‘go to’ area, Telluride, for good ol’ family ski fun. With six days of skiing planned, we had time to explore, ski with the kids, not ski with kids, long lunches in the sun, ski school drop off, ski school pick ups, short hikes up to Dihedral face and of course, obligatory long hikes up to Palmyra Peak.
On this trip, we arrived with temps in the 50s in town but with wintery and chalky conditions on the hill. To my astonishment, the conditions were quite amazing when you consider that it had been six weeks since the last storm. Early in the week, given the conditions, we explored the mountain and followed the morning groomer reports to ski the steepest piste runs available. Runs like Lookout, the Plunge, Bushwacker, Milk Run, and Coonskin were a carvers dream. Before and after lunch, I usually broke away from the family to find some tasty lines through Dihedral Face, Dihedral Chute and Black Iron Bowl of Chair 12.
We did receive a few inches of fresh snow midway through the week and that tremendously improved the snow quality especially up high on the hikes. But as luck we have it, it has been snowing non-stop since the day we departed back to California. I’d highly recommend you book a trip and head out there immediately…especially since I packed down the rocky areas for you in the Dihedral zones.
