Last week, Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina got around 130 inches of snow in 5 days. We got a couple days of sun, then the next system rolled through on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, the snow levels were high.
At some point during the weekend storm, it rained to the top of the mountain. A funky rain crust is lingering below everything. It never snowed below 1600 meters (5,250 ft or the top of the Sextuple chair).
Today, the storm broke. I zipped up to the top of the hill and hiked up Nubes two times before the chair opened and the snow was good up there.
About 6 inches of wind packed snow had settled on top of the rain crust and made skiing fun. It was punchy, for sure, but still fun.
Once the Nubes chair opened I skied two more laps and then the place got tracked out. I headed to La Laguna and the snow was a touch better in there. About 6 inches of wind packed snow on top of the crust as well, but a smidgen lighter and easier to turn in. Still punchy, though. A few airs were had, just to test the punchiness.
I met up with some of the boys and we did a couple laps in Laguna and the skiing was fun.
The snow was fun enough that we decided on a backcountry tour tomorrow of Alaskita (little alaska). We’ll have a report for you on how that is tomorrow. Not expecting too much, but it’ll be fun to get out and poke around.
Love the spires
Looks better than Colorado right now.
